He is also trying to make his city the bitcoin capital of the world. The Mayor is pro bitcoin tweeting on Tuesday to accept 100% of his next paycheck in Bitcoin!
In response to a Twitter challenge from Morgan Creek Digital partner Anthony Pompliano “Who is going to be the first American politician to accept their salary in Bitcoin?”
Mayor Suarez tweeted Mike Sarasti ( CIO and director of Innovation and Tech of Miami ), asking if he could help make it happen. Sarasti replied, “Mayor Amazing,” with two 100$ and a bitcoin symbol. Following the Mayor’s tweet and agreement to accept his paycheck in bitcoin, several professional athletes and sports teams followed in his way, asking to be paid in bitcoin. Such as Russel Okung, Tom Rady, Aaron Rodgers, and more.
The Miami Mayor has been one of the number one advocates of bitcoin. He has contacted the city’s lawmakers to provide government employees a salary in bitcoin. As well as for the city to invest a portion of funds in bitcoin. In October, he mentioned that crypto is a significant priority, and his goal is to build the city into the crypto capital of the world.
The Mayor of Jackson, TN, and the Mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri, have also supported bitcoin.
U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has mentioned several times that bitcoin is an excellent store of value. In response to Suarez’s statement, she responded, “Bested by the gentleman from Miami. Well done, sir. “
